Description:
The dichroscope is a pocket-sized tool that can aid in the identification of gemstones. This tool is used to inspect pleochroism color in gemstones and to quickly separate some common stones from each other (such as ruby versus red garnet).
The calcite dichroscope is the preferred type of dichroscope used in gemology. It works because the calcite rhomb (Iceland spar) separates the polarized slow and fast ray emerging from the gemstone. If you look at the viewing end of the dichroscope, two small windows are seen.

Operation steps:
1. Hold the gem by your thumb and forefinger,hold the calcite dichroscope in right hand close to your eye,the gem sample must be close to the window of calcite dichroscope,then close to the incandescent lamp or sunlight outside the window;
2. View the side-by-side window,rotate the sample,and compare the color between the two windows,until your see the pleochromatism
3. make the sample still,rotate the drawtube 180°,if the color exchange in the two windows,means the gem own pleochromatism
4. If can’t see pleochromatism rotating the sample 360°,we should rotate the drawtube,then turn the gem again.if we still can’t see pleochromatism,put down the sample,hold the gem in the vertical direction of before,repeat the steps.If still can’t see anything,means the gem don’t own pleochromatism
